Meet Attorney Richard W. Ferris

Richard Ferris has built his career on the belief that the law exists to protect people — and that every client, regardless of their financial situation, deserves vigorous, informed representation. His background is as diverse as the clients he serves.

30+ years of Virginia legal experience: Richard has practiced in Virginia’s state courts, federal district courts, the Court of Appeals of Virginia, and the Supreme Court of Virginia.
Federal court admissions: Richard is admitted to practice before the U.S. District Court for the Eastern and Western Districts of Virginia and the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Virginia.
Legal Aid roots: Richard began his career as a Legal Aid lawyer at Peninsula Legal Aid, representing hundreds of clients in civil matters before courts in Williamsburg, Matthews, Middlesex, and Gloucester Counties.
Civil rights advocacy: As Associate Director of the ACLU of Virginia, Richard lobbied the Virginia General Assembly on civil rights and civil liberties issues and litigated civil and constitutional rights cases throughout the Commonwealth.
Education: Richard earned his B.A. in Political Science from Hampden-Sydney College and his J.D. from the University of Richmond’s T.C. Williams School of Law.

Catherine Wright has been a fixture in Virginia’s legal community since 1972, bringing more than five decades of hands-on experience to every client matter she touches. Her focus on divorce documentation and civil litigation makes her an invaluable part of the Ferris Law team.

Decades of divorce expertise: Catherine began her legal career at the Neighborhood Legal Aid Society in Richmond, where she quickly became proficient in divorce and bankruptcy documentation.
Administrative leadership experience: She later served as Administrative Assistant to the Employment Law Project at the Poverty Law Center and as Supervisor of support staff.
Criminal defense and civil litigation background: Catherine has worked as a Legal Assistant and Paralegal in both criminal defense and civil litigation throughout her career in the private sector.
Unmatched attention to detail: Her experience means she catches the procedural and documentation issues that can delay or derail a case before they become problems.
Client-centered approach: Catherine treats every client’s case with the same care and thoroughness she would bring to a matter for her own family.
